WHAT IS SHIATSU

Shi (finger) Atsu (pressure)

Shiatsu massage is a unique healing art of Chinese and Japanese origin and can be applied to many different conditions, physical, spiritual, and emotional. This is due to its flexible nature, based on listening to the body in the present moment, through movement and stillness. It involves palm and finger pressure, rotations, stretches, and gentle holding. Shiatsu massage acts to promote relaxation, structural alignment, balance, and increased self-awareness. It works on the same pressure points used in acupuncture, and it has sometimes been described as “acupuncture without needles”.

AIMS OF SHIATSU

- To stimulate the self-regulation system of the organism.

- To release energetic tensions and blockages.

- To support the natural and free flow of vital energy.

- To balance the energetic system of a person as a wholeness (body and mind).

- To increase self-awareness and the self-responsibility to take care of health.

HOW A SHIATSU TREATMENT IS CARRIED OUT

I welcome you into the studio and offer you some tea or water, then we start with a short conversation about your general and current state of being, any recurrent or new injuries, taking into account any eventual trauma, fractures, and past surgeries. I ask you about the reason that leads you to receive shiatsu and your aspirations.

I also inquire about your preferences for touch, pressure, and your comfortable lying position. Please note when you book an appointment that the conversation before and after the treatment is included in the treatment's time.

A 90 minutes treatment lasts between 70-90 minutes.

A 60 minutes treatment lasts between 45-60 minutes.

Before and after the treatment, a conversation accompanying the process is helpful.

At the European Institute of Shiatsu in Turin, where I trained, I learned to offer shiatsu in silence, to listen, to follow, and also to encourage the rhythm of the recipient. Shiatsu is rhythmic: there is a rhythm for each meridian and function that overlaps the rhythm of the recipient, it is a multi-level treatment that does not require the additional input of music.

The treatment begins supine, with the evaluation of the "Hara", the abdomen, where the meridian evaluation areas are located. Through the touch, I individuate which meridians need to be balanced at the time of the treatment and I develop the treatment following those meridians and their functions. During the treatment, I ask you to change position (supine, prone or lateral) according to the path of the meridians to be treated.

WHERE IT TAKES PLACE

Shiatsu is received on the ground on a futon, a Japanese mattress with pillows, and a blanket to put the recipient at ease and allow him to relax to the fullest.

DURATION

A full-body treatment takes about an hour or 90 minutes and includes conversation, treatment, and rest.

"DRESS CODE"

Shiatsu is received with clothes and does not involve the use of oil, so the recipient is asked to come with comfortable clothing, possibly in natural fibers: sweatpants or leggings, clean socks, a T-shirt, and a golf/pullover if necessary (better without a hood so as not to interfere with neck and shoulder work).

EVERY TREATMENT IS DIFFERENT

The treatment is a function of the moment, life is change, and shiatsu supports this change by adapting to the needs of the recipient at the moment.

Please note: Shiatsu is not recommended in cases of fever, acute infections, and inflammations and cannot replace medical treatment.
